After collecting all the staple ingredients this is my attempt of teriyaki sauce from scratch and it turned out great. I am partial to taking a second serving of the stir fry and omitting the rice so I can feel like I am being a little healthier but rice or noodles would definitely be an optional addition for this dish. I used a tenderloin steak for this stir fry because that’s what I had on hand but a sirloin or other type of steak would work just as well. 🥢

INGREDIENTS

12 oz steak of choice
1 broccoli crown
2 carrots
½ onion
½ cup soy sauce
½ tbs minced garlic
1 tsp minced ginger
2 tbs honey
2 tbs brown sugar
1 tsp rice vinegar
1 tbs sesame seeds
1 tbs cornstarch
2 tbs water

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut the steak in half lengthwise and slice into ¼ inch pieces and place in a medium bowl. Mix soy sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, and brown sugar and rice vinegar in a bowl with a whisk until blended. Pour ⅓ of sauce over the steak and marinate. Reserve the rest. Chop broccoli into bite size pieces and carrots and cooking onion into ⅛ inch slices. Heat a large pan to a high heat and cook the steak in the marinade. Remove from the pan and put to the side. In the same pan saute the vegetables until half cooked (about 5 minutes). Add the reminder of the sauce and saute for another 5 minutes. Add cornstarch slurry (cornstarch & water) and stir until sauce is thickened and vegetables are cooked. Add steak and stir until all elements are mixed in the sauce. Top with sesame seeds.
